# End-user license agreement (EULA)

## 1. What this is about


MAPu is a Windows program that adds gauges and a map-based minimap to action
camera footage and produces a new video file. This text describes what you are
allowed to do with the program, and what liability we accept for it. It's short,
because that's really all there is to it.




## 2. Right of use


You may use the program for an unlimited time, on as many of
your own computers as you like, for both personal and business purposes. You may
make copies of it and pass it on, **unmodified**, together with this
same text. The finished videos are yours: MAPu claims no rights over them and
does not watermark them.




## 3. What you may do, and what you may not


The program was built with open extension points, and you are welcome to use
them:




  - **You may write your own gauges** or rework the existing ones: in
      the installation's `resources\dash-modules` folder one file is one
      gauge, and their contract is the `resources\docs\DASH-MODULE-CONTRACT.md`
      next to it. Gauges you make this way are yours to distribute freely.

  - **You may replace the bundled FFmpeg** with another build (see
      section 4).

  - The rest of the program ships in readable source form; on your own computer
      you may modify that too.



What you may not do:




  - Sell or distribute the program — modified or not — **under a different
      name or as your own product**, or pass on a modified version as MAPu.
      (This does not apply to the open-source components shipped inside it: those
      are governed by their own licenses — the list is in the program: Help →
      About → "Third-party licenses".)

  - Remove or obscure the source attribution shown on the map
      ("© OpenFreeMap © OpenMapTiles © OpenStreetMap contributors"). This is not
      a cosmetic matter: the map data's license (ODbL) requires it, so the
      program writes it onto every map gauge, and there is no switch to turn it
      off.

  - Use the program to produce infringing content. You are responsible for
      what you put into your videos.





## 4. The bundled ffmpeg


Video encoding is performed by the **FFmpeg** copy bundled with
the program, which is a **separate program**: MAPu does not link
against it, but launches it as an independent process. FFmpeg is shipped under
the terms of the **GNU GPL v3**, and that component is governed by
the GPL's rights — not this agreement. The full license text and the exact build
designation are in the license list on the program's About page; the complete
source code (including the statically linked libraries) can be downloaded from the
original upstream repositories, at the exact revisions — the manifest that says,
item by item, where from, is the installation's
`resources\vendor\ffmpeg\SOURCES.md` (the same manifest is also readable at
[kotysoft.com/mapu/ffmpeg-src/SOURCES.md](https://kotysoft.com/mapu/ffmpeg-src/SOURCES.md)).
The copy can be replaced: the `ffmpeg.exe` and `ffprobe.exe` in that same
folder can be swapped for another build with the same capabilities. The license and
copyright notices of the libraries compiled into it are in the same license list.


Nothing in this agreement limits the rights that the open-source components
shipped with the program (FFmpeg among them) grant under their own licenses: where
the two differ, a component is governed by its own license.




## 5. Trademarks


GoPro, Insta360, Garmin, and any other mentioned brand name belong to their
rightful owners. The program mentions them only to state which files it can
read; there is no manufacturer relationship, endorsement, or sponsorship behind
it.




## 6. Warranty and liability


The program comes "as is": we do not promise that it is
free of errors, that it works with every video and on every computer, or that it
is fit for any particular purpose. The program does not overwrite or delete your
original footage, but keep a backup of anything important regardless.


To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for damage
arising from its use — including data loss and lost profits. This limitation
**does not apply** to damage caused intentionally or by gross
negligence, nor to damage to life, limb or health: we do not exclude liability
for these. Nothing in this text takes away what the law that applies to you does
not allow to be excluded: where a consumer protection or other mandatory rule of
your country of residence or of the EU gives you more than this, that rule
applies.




## 7. Privacy


The program collects no data about you; it has no account, analytics or
advertising. Which network connections it makes (currently the update check and the
map tiles) and what those reveal is described in a separate document, the
**Privacy notice** — in the program (Help → About) and on
kotysoft.com/mapu.




## 8. Changes, contact


This text, and with it the program's terms, may change in later versions; a
version is always governed by the text that belongs to it, which can be read in the
program (Help → About) at any time; the latest version is also on
kotysoft.com/mapu. The program is not published by a company but by a private
individual: **Kotysoft (Tibor Kovacs, an independent developer)**, Ireland —
